Leave Your Car Behind For One Day (or Seven)
Leave Your Car Behind For One Day (or Seven)
I have The Best Idea
Can you leave behind your car for at least one day, and take an alternate way to travel to work, school, or somewhere else? Take the challenge, and you might make a ripple effect for the better.
Here's What I'm Thinking...
The idea comes from the "Alternative Travel Project" [http://www.stanakatic.com/atp] produced by Stana Katic (who plays Kate Beckett in the tv show Castle). She and Seamus Dever (co-actor on Castle) decided to explore different ways to travel to work through cycling, walking, and public transportation. They documented their experience during October 2010 in Los Angeles for seven days to persuade others around the world to take the challenge that has more than environmental benefits. I would like to implement it by bringing my city, university, and state (Texas) to take the challenge. We could create a month where people could take part, document their experience, and then at the end could go to a music event. I would love to see my whole state take part, and cause other states to do something similar.
$1,000 will...
The money could help promote the idea, and also help make the music event be possible. The music event would need an affordable location (maybe my university campus), and a good band to play at the event. It could be a wizard rock band, or a local band, but a good band that will bring the crowds. People who take the challenge can win prizes at the event for their creativity, and how many days they take to do the challenge. Also at this music event, people could donate to the Alternative Travel Project, and other organizations such as WWF & The Harry Potter Alliance.
About me:
I'm a college student who understands how people love to use their cars. It's a feeling a freedom, but an alternative way to travel can bring the same, even enjoyable, experience. I think this idea could be something I could do with friends, and it can be fun to do. As a college student, we have so much trouble parking on campus for the limited parking spots, and with this idea we would have less problems. With less problems, then we feel better in class, and get better grades. I like to do well in my classes, help promote great ideas, and I'm a huge fan of Harry Potter and Castle. I feel all these elements can help me bring this idea to reality. Since I was little I've always enjoyed music, for me it's true magic in the world. So for me having a music event would be wonderful with this idea. FYI: The images & video included are from the Alternative Travel Project, & Stana Katic. They aren't mine, but I really feel they work to support this idea.
