The Magic of Education
The Magic of Education
I have The Best Idea
Just like at Hogwarts, the first line of defense against any Horcrux is education. The availability of climate crisis geared curriculum is in support of that first line of defense.
Here's What I'm Thinking...
The development and availability of climate crisis geared curriculum for classroom use is very limited in this nation and possibly in others as well. The idea behind "The Magic of Education" is to lobby educational activists to support the utilization and development of climate crisis education for young students beginning in late-elementary classrooms and continuing through high school.
As a teacher I have first-hand experience the lack of information regarding climate crisis that is accessible and understandable for young audiences. But if we are to agree that education is the greatest motivator for change then the development and utilization of this type of curriculum is a necessary step toward eliminating this life-altering issue.
Technology at its availability in schools has advanced this could be as minimal as creating a universally viable website that both instructs students, quizzes them on their knowledge, and gives access to articles, journals, databases, and reports on the impending repercussions of our current climate crisis. It could also stretch as far as governmental lobbying of the need for climate crisis education as a standard objective for specific end of level testing and classroom instruction. Something as simple as a school-wide contest for best artwork, essay, or creative writing sample that best exemplifies the current climate crisis and the issues it produces.
The possibilities for education on the issue are endless, but the availability and versatility of the information available are not. The intention of "The Magic of Education" is to create or better support readily available resources and development of curriculum for teachers, administrators, and curricular advocates to see how simple education on the issue can be. Thus creating a desire to support the education of young students who will be fighting this battle for decades to come on a national or even international level.
$1,000 will...
$1,000 would be a great starting point for the any of the ideas previously stated. Something as simple as the creation of a free website available for all teachers that will provide instructional lesson plans, quizzes, curriculum, and activities to help support the education of young muggles on the issue of climate crisis. Even the development and sponsorship of a statewide contest for artwork, writing samples, or research pamphlets that best exemplify our current climate crisis could be possible with these funds. It could also help support a leaflet and activism campaign for local and state lawmakers to support the designation of climate issues as a necessary addition to current required curricular objectives. The development of textbooks or addition to already available textbooks of climate crisis-specific materials would be another possible use for the funds. Many options are viable with these funds and possibly several at once could be sponsored. The idea is to find a way that best makes teachers, law-makers, administrators, and students aware of the issue and the necessity of educating subsequent generations of the eminent repercussions if nothing is done about the current state.
Specifics:
-Illustration of Children's Literature for younger audiences
-Evaluation current curriculum by certified experts
-Developing a paperless method of distributing resources to willing educators
-Filming of age appropriate documentaries to share with youth
-Letter writing campaign to local, national, and international figures who support climate crisis awareness
